Covid-19 & Safety Information

To ensure the safety of all our passengers and staff at this time, Skellig Coast Adventures implements the following safety and hygiene measures: 

  • Passenger groups are requested to maintain a suitable distance and observe face coverings guidance to ensure the safety of all onboard.
  • Hand sanitiser is available on deck at all times
  • All passengers are required to wear a suitable face covering at all times – embarkation, tour and disembarkation
  • All skippers and guides are required to wear a suitable face covering at all times
  • All payments will be processed electronically to reduce passenger/staff contact
  • Each boat is cleansed and sanitised between each tour
  • Passengers are advised to wear warm layers of clothes and suitable footwear

Departure Point

Embarkation for all Skellig Coast Adventure cruises is at Portmagee Marina located in the seaside village of Portmagee, 15km from the town of Cahersiveen.

  • Follow the Ring of Kerry route, N70, to Cahersiveen.
  • Continue straight through the town. After exiting the town, continue straight on the N70 for a further 5km.
  • At the junction, take the right turn onto the R565 signposted Portmagee/Valentia Island.
  • Travelling this route for 10km, will bring you into the village of Portmagee.
  • There are a number of free public car parking spaces available at the entrance of the village and located at the church in the centre.

FAQs

Information for the Skellig Michael Landing Tour

  • There is one landing tour per vessel per day with a morning departure between 08:30 and 09:30.
  • Your vessel’s departure time will be confirmed the evening before – please note weather conditions can be changeable and your departure time may be altered depending on weather and sea conditions on the day of your booking.
  • We recommend you stay as close as possible to Portmagee the night before your trip.
  • The whole trip takes approximately 5 hours.
  • A fair level of fitness is required to climb Skellig Michael.
  • All passengers for the Skellig Landing Trip must be 10 years+.

Should I book in advance?

  • Booking in advance is essential for both Skellig Landing Tours and Eco Tours

What times of the year do the tours take place?

  • Eco Tour season runs from April to the beginning of October.
  • Landing season runs from mid May to the end of September. No landing tours will run outside of these dates.

What do I need to wear/bring for the Skellig Michael Landing Tour?

  • Wear warm comfortable clothing and good walking shoes.
  • Bring light rain gear using small backpacks.
  • Pack something to eat, water and sunscreen also.

Information for the Skellig Michael Eco Tour

  • Eco Tours depart between 2:30 – 3:30 daily, weather depending.
  • The tour sails around both Islands and you will be within touching distance to Skellig Michael and the small Skelligs to see both the wildlife and the historical sites.
  • This tour does not land on Skellig Michael.

Cancellation Policy

  • If you cancel your reservation more than 14 days in advance of the departure time, you will receive a full refund.
  • If you cancel less than 14 days in advance of the departure time, or in the case of a No-Show then no refund will be given.
  • We reserve the right to change the departure time and we will give you advance notice of this.
  • We may need to cancel a tour due to sea conditions. If we need to cancel a tour, you will receive a full refund.

Can my Landing Tour be rescheduled if poor sea/weather conditions cause it to be cancelled?

  • Unfortunately no, there are restricted daily visitor numbers in line with the OPW site managements plan for Skellig Michael. If your landing tour is cancelled, we will unfortunately not be able to reschedule you on a different day if already fully booked. It may be possible to accommodate you on an Eco Tour.

Can my Eco Tour be rescheduled if poor sea/weather conditions cause it to be cancelled?

  • Yes, when the weather/sea conditions improve we will try our best to accommodate you on the next available tour.
