Discover Skelligs Wildlife

From puffins to dolphins, seals to whales and plenty in between, there is a wealth of wildlife to see in this Special Protection Area.

Whales

Whales

Minke whales can be spotted year round on the Skellig coast. The area around the Skellig Islands is also a rich feeding ground for majestic humpback whales.

Dolphins

Dolphins

Different species of dolphins are known to frequent the waters around the Skelligs, including many bottlenose dolphins. The Greater Skellig Coast Hope Spot is an initiative to conserve the habitat and dolphins are a regular sight on boat tours in the area.

Basking Sharks

Basking Sharks

The basking shark is one of the largest fish in the world and we’re lucky to be able to spot them in the waters around the Skellig Islands. Up to 12 metres in length, basking sharks can be seen at the surface of the water, with their large mouths open filtering for plankton. An amazing sight.

Sea Birds
